Add new pages to the document you created in Competency 1.1 Assessment A, applying the style and design you have created for your personalized handbook to your one-page summary. |
| Instructions | Influences on the Contemporary Idea of the Self
● Open the Google Doc you originally created in Competency 1.1 Assessment A. ● Create a new page after your work for Competency 1.1 Assessment A where you will discuss the influences that have shaped the way you and people around you think about the self. ● Label your new page, “Influences on My Idea of the Self.” You will fill this page in after you have done the following exercises. ● Create a new page and label it “Influences on the Contemporary Idea of the Self.” Record there the following work: ● Briefly define each of the dimensions of the Hofstede model of natural culture. ■ Power distance ■ Individualism (vs Collectivism) ■ Masculinity (vs Femininity) ■ Uncertainty Avoidance ■ Long Term Orientation (vs. Short Term) ■ Indulgence (vs. Restraint) ● Record the data for your country using the Country Comparison – Hofstede Insights ■ If your country is not listed on the Country Comparison – Hofstede Insights then please use a neighboring country that you think is most similar culturally to your country. ● Compare those values to the values of other countries, including but not limited to: ■ Neighboring Countries ■ Countries with whom your country has positive relationships ■ Countries with whom your country has negative relationships ● Record your observations. For example, What similarities and what differences stand out to you? ● Address each of the following points by providing a substantial response of at least two sentences. Please be specific in your responses by analyzing and explaining each idea in great detail. Make sure you cite where your ideas and information have come from. Format your citations according to MLA guidelines. ■ What does this information, especially the data regarding Power Distance and Individualism vs Collectivism, tell you about the underlying view of the self? ■ What are three things that stood out to you about your national culture from the Hofstede model of national culture? Two of the three should be things you agree with and one should be something you do not agree with. ● For each of the three, explain why you agree or disagree and give a specific example to support your claim. (These examples might be related to how the majority religion, traditional beliefs, and regional figures understand the view of the self and purpose in life.) ■ What stands out to you regarding the global worldview of “the modern self”? Why? ■ How do you see this global worldview reflected in your culture? ● Write a summary for your Divine Design Handbook page “Influences on My Idea of the Self.” This summary should be created in the style you have chosen for your Divine Design Handbook and should personalize and reflect the course resources and the previous activities. |
